The Lancaster Convalescent Home

During WW1, St Edward's Church Vicarage became a convalescent Home for wounded soldiers. The war memorial inside the church tells us that 562 men received treatment there, and the whole cost was paid by Edward George Lancaster of Keresforth Hall, Barnsley.

In the book 'Kingstone Remembers the Great War' we tell the story of how the 'Lancaster Convalescent Home' began, with information about Mr Lancaster and details of the men's fund-raising events, concerts and charabanc trips out into the countryside. The photographs right are just a few examples of the ones printed in the book.
