Harold Sawyer 1895-1916 age 22

Son of William and Elizabeth Sawyer of 34 Keresforth Hill Road, Barnsley 
The youngest of 8 children
Employed at the Strafford Main Colliery Barnsley. 
Harold was unmarried.
Died 30th July 1916, killed in action

Thomas Coote Allport 1882-1915 age 33

Son of Howard Aston Allport and Sarah Allport nee Coote of Dodworth Grove, Barnsley
The fourth of 6 children
Director of Wharncliffe Woodmoor Colliery Barnsley.
Thomas was the Captain of the York and Lancaster Regiment 5th Battalion (Territorials)
Died 1st August 1915, killed in action

Charles Coote Allport 1886-1971 age 85

The name on the memorial tablet in St Edward's Church is Charles Coote Allport.
This should read THOMAS Coote Allport. 
There is no person with the name Charles Coote Allport. 

Thomas had a brother called Charles JOHN Allport. Charles saw service in WW1 and survived to return home.

Charles was a Sergeant in the Royal Army Service Corps (Motor Transport) 
He was married to Gertrude and was a wholesale manufacturing stationer. 
He lived at 41 Duncan Road, Longsight, Manchester at the time of enlisting.

James Laycock 1885-1918 age 33

Son of James and Sarah Ann Laycock nee Britton
Husband of Elizabeth Laycock nee Turton of Racecommon Road Barnsley 
The 6th of 7 known children. 
Employed at the Strafford Main Colliery 
Had served in the South African War
Died 18th April 1918, killed in action

Son of James Senior Holmes and Hannah White Holmes of 105 Lancaster Street, Barnsley. 
The third of 5 children.
Unmarried.
Employed in the traffic manager's office at the Barnsley Central Railway Station.  
Percy died of wounds.
